ANGLEA ROTHE
Assistant Trainer
Every day that Angela Rothe steps into the arena, she brings over 30 years of horse experience and a genuine passion for teaching.
Angela started her riding career as many do, with a trusted pony to carry her to 4-H shows, summer horse camp, and bareback around the pasture. She even checked the mail daily from her pony's back and galloped up the hill to the house pony express style! Her years of showing a “little of everything” have given her a broad perspective on how horsemanship and equitation can help all riders, from the trail to the show ring. After dabbling in H/J, western horsemanship, trail trials, gymkhanas, and even endurance, Angela has turned her focus to dressage, earning her USDF Bronze Medal in 2019 on her Friesian Appaloosa "Spot". She still enjoys cross training her horses. When she's not working on her Silver Medal scores, you'll still find her jumping cross country, riding trail obstacles, and competing in Working Equitation.
Angela relies on solid ground work exercises as the essential base of a reliable riding horse. The daily work of training a horse is a delicate balance of building correct strength, increasing through the levels, while encouraging a relaxed horse. The end goal is a supple mount who is happy in their work.
When coaching students, the rider's balanced position comes into focus first to allow the horse to perform his best. Angela focuses her teaching theory on correct dressage basics for horses and riders, while creatively adjusting for the individual learning style of either the horse or rider. Angela’s love of dressage theory and horsemanship brings “head” knowledge into lessons in order to help riders become more independent.
